Media Campaign Aimed at Recycling Awareness
To Launch in Albuquerque, November
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, Oct. 30, 2007 – New Mexico will see its first full-fledged recycling awareness campaign this November in the greater Albuquerque area, complete with billboards, bus-sides, print, radio and TV advertisements with the cooperation of Waste Management of New Mexico as one of its biggest partners.
Traditionally, America Recycles Day falls on November 15th with recycling-oriented events hosted around the nation, and the New Mexico Recycling Coalition (NMRC) holds a complimentary campaign called New Mexico Recycling Awareness Month.
NMRAM provides educational resources and materials to local communities and schools around the state to support the increased awareness and participation in recycling. This year, the NMRC brought together a range of support for a concerted educational campaign in order to increase the presence of recycling on a grand scale. No other community in the state has taken on such a large campaign targeted at increasing recycling awareness, according to English Bird executive director of NMRC.
Waste Management provides recycling collection to Rio Rancho, Los Ranchos, Bernalillo County and Kirtland Air Force Base Housing, serving 55,0000 households. The company has helped many communities start their recycling programs.
“ Recycling is an easy way to protect our environment and ensure the well being of our community for generations to come. However, the success of recycling depends on the active participation of every member of the community, said Calvin Ivy, general manager of Waste Management of New Mexico. “That is why we are so pleased to support this November’s public awareness campaign.”
"Waste Management has made a commitment to furthering recycling in New Mexico and by supporting this campaign we hope this a first step to future recycling campaigns both in this area and around the state," said Bird.
Other partners in the NMRAM media campaign include the City of Albuquerque, Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful, Intel, Weyerhaeuser, Dex, New Mexico Environment Department: Solid Waste Bureau, Keep New Mexico Beautiful, Durango McKinley Paper Company, Clear Channel, Lamar Transit Agency, Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation, Sandia National Laboratory, Enchantment Electronic Recycling and Guaranteed Recycling Xperts.
